Memorial Lutheran provides Kebede with money for living expenses and his salary. We also provide funds, (through our congregation), for him to do agricultural and Christian missions. We pray for the work of Kebede every week in our worship services, as well as give people the opportunity to help with our special projects. The Awassa area where Kebede works is growing rapidly. Kebede is working with the local church to establish three new missions there.
$200 to train and support student evangelists at the Kofole Mission Training Center. Kofole is a mountainous area about 55 miles east of Awasa, (Kebede's home base).
$1200 to provide supplies to the Women's Programs. Workitu works with the women in her congregation to make baskets, blankets and other items. They sell these items and the money supports the work of the congregation.
Donations can be made a number of ways, by marking your offering envelope or check for "Kebede" or by turning in an "Adoption Agreement" which we have in the office. Many people have contributed to Kebede's work in honor of a loved one rather than buying another sweater...
One of the hardships facing the people living near Wayo Hargassa was that they had to walk 2-3 hours to get water, water that wasn't very clean.
Our project diverted fresh, clean water from a government water line 2 miles away from the church there, and established a storage tank & distribution center right next to the church. The water station has been turned over to the local community, which charges a small fee to support the attendents at the station.
We helped to establish an evangelist training center at Arsi Negale. The 30 evangelists who are trained there spread out to preaching stations in order to share the Word of God. This training center has developed a model Sunday School program as well, which Kebede hopes to recreate at other training centers that have sprouted up. One training center in Kersa Qetema is in a mainly Muslim area, 90 miles away from Arsi Negale Training Center.
